BOEY DID NOT LOSE HER BATTLE TO CANCER

Friday, February 29th, 2008

We have received hundreds of concerned emails asking why did Boey seem to be doing so well and then all the sudden she’s not here? We want you to know that we will be updating everyone on what happened the last couple months. It all happened so fast and it was really horrible and traumatic. Boey deserved better..it’s all very unfair and making our healing process much more difficult. THE REPORTS OF HER LOSING BATTLE TO CANCER ARE FALSE. She lost her life to pneumonia, a preventable and very treatable condition.  Please continue to lift us up in prayer as we sort through the chaos of the last few months and seek God for answers and healing. We know she’s in paradise with her King and we long to be with her there, but it doesn’t heal the gaping hole in our heart and the emptiness of her not being with her family where we she belongs. We feel robbed and violated..as though their has been an error in the universe somewhere. I keep telling God ok..jokes over, bring back my baby girl:(. But that’s not working out to well..it all is very surreal that she’s not here..I keep thinking she’s at grammies on a very long tea party having fun with all her girlfriends and I need to pick her up. The  pain of missing her is excruciating: Yesterday was really heartbreaking. Boey and her best friend Helena signed up for a very exciting  fashion show at Nordstroms last year when Boey was in remission:(. Just another painful reminder of Boey being robbed of her beautiful childhood :(. I need my Boey squishes, kisses and hugs so desperately. Pray for us. PLEASE read below and watch the youtube videos..let’s get this bill passed!!! God Bless

PLEASE HELP CONTACT SENATORS NOT SIGNED ON TO THE BILL!!

Wednesday, February 27th, 2008

So, now there are 53 sponsors (another signed on yesterday) - need 7 more to negate the hold on the bill.  OUR VERYOWN SENATOR SMITH HAS NOT SIGNED ON TO THIS BILL. BOEY NEEDS YOU TO CONTACT HIS OFFICE AT - 503-326-3386.  YOU CAN ALSO WRITE HIM LETTERS AT Senator Gordon Smith, 121 SW Salmon St, Suite 1250, Portland, OR 97204) or emails (thru his website, gsmith.senate.gov/webform.htm):

SUGGESTED TEXT FOR A LETTER TO SEN SMITH:

“ I’m encouraging Sen. Smith to cosponsor S.911, Conquer Childhood Cancer Act.  One of his own constituents, 8 year old Boey Byers of Corvallis, was, and continues to be through her memory and family and friends, an amazing advocate for the kids in this country suffering from cancer.  She fought valiantly to bring to the attention of Congress and the country that there’s a pressing and immediate need for more pediatric cancer research.  She did this even as she couragously fought for her own life for two years.  Through two years of chemo and radiation treatments, brutal pain and sickness - she never gave up!  I ask you to honor Boey’s memory and legacy by cosponsoring S.911 - no child (nor should their families) EVER have to suffer the horrors of cancer.  I commend Sen. Wyden’s cosponsorship of the bill, and ask Sen. Smith to consider supporting this important legislation.”

Respectfully,

WE ARE SO CLOSE! PLEASE TAKE TIME TO DO THIS. IS THERE ANYTHING MORE IMPORTANT THAN SAVING THE LIFE OF A CHILD? AS BOEY WOULD SAY “LET’S FIND A CURE ALREADY”! FOR ANY SENATOR TO NOT BE SIGNED ON TO THIS BILL IS TRULY UNACCEPTABLE AND THERE IS NO EXSCUSE!!!!!!!!!! WHAT IF IT WAS THERE CHILD THEY HAD TO WATCH BE TORTURED FROM THIS EVIL DISEASE? WE CAN NO LONGER SIT BY AND TOLERATE THIS..WE NEED TO UNITE AND BE THE VOICE FOR OUR CHILDREN AND MAKE A STAND!! PLEASE CONTACT SENATOR SMITH AND ALL OTHER SPONSORS THAT HAVE NOT SIGNED ON YET!!

THANKYOU ON BEHALF OF OUR BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL AND ALL HER FRIENDS, WE ARE FOREVER GRATEFUL.

BOEY’S STORY ON CSPAN FROM SENATE FLOOR

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

VIDEO OF BOEY KICKING CANCER BUTT FROM THE SENATE FLOOR ON CSPAN2!!!

The timing of the senators discussing the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act and Boey’s selfless and determined effort to get this bill passed is very symbolic and significant. Just last year at this time our spunky determined passionate warrior princess just happened to come across the Oprah show while she was searching for one of her favorite kid shows. All the sudden I walked in the room and Boey had tears streaming down her face. I’ll never forget the look of shock and horror in her face as she sadly cried out “mommmmyyyyyyyyyy noooooooooooo how could this lady give Oprah a million dollars to Africa when me and my friends are being tortured from chemo and dying from cancer…doesn’t this lady know we need a cure mommy? We have to do something NOW mommy!!”

It was as if time had stood still as I looked into her big beautiful brown eyes and knew this would be the beginning of something much greater than any of us could ever dream of. Boey had fought relentlessly for a cure even through grueling treatment, but now she was in remission and nothing was going to get in her way of finding a cure! Boey and I got on the internet and searched for ways to raise money for a cure and that’s when we found cure search and the CCA Bill. Boey was so excited to find this promising bill that would provide 150 million(not enough by far but it‘s a start)towards pediatric cancer research and cure. For the first time, Boey was filled with hope and more determined than ever.

She sat down and begin writing her very powerful letter to Sen Wyden of Oregon. Boey is now a part of US history and in the congressional record for her work and passion towards getting this bill passed. Even when faced with the devastation in May of o7 of a relapse and knowing what lied ahead in battling this evil beast she perservered. She walked the hallways of the pediatric oncology unit with Sen Wyden introducing him to all her warrior friends along the way. She told him how horrible chemo and radiation were and how it breaks her heart to know all her little friends are suffering. He promised to do all he can in the fight for a cure. Boey drew Sen Wyden a beautiful drawing that can be seen in the video below of her and her new hero Sen Wyden at the White House.  She was very excited and honored to speak to Sen Jack Reed the creator of the Conquer Childhood Cancer Act Bill in Nov of 07. He personally thanked her for all her hard work while fighting for her own life. Everyday without our baby girl is so heart wrenching..the pain seems to get worse every dayL .

Today was especially hard..it was one of those days where the tears were neverending and I felt like I was suffocating from the pain of just wanting to be with her..hold her..look into her and eyes and find refuge in our perfect love for each other. Then the phone rang..what impeccable timing. It was Sen.Wydens office telling us the exciting news about the senators in DC talking about Boey’s fight for the CCA bill and her story on CSPAN 2. We watched with tears and the ultimate pride in our warrior princess. We know that Boey was beaming with pride as she watched the fruits of her labor and love from above.

Heaven is where our hearts are, but for now I believe that God has a reason for all of us still being here. We are watching our daughter’s dreams, goals and passion in finding a cure glorified before our eyes and it’s the most gratifying feeling in the world. Boey taught us how to live, laugh, and love. She taught us to never ever give up on yourself or God and no matter what always believe. We will fight for a cure and carry on her amazing legacy with the same grace, determination, strength and faith that she did. We will live to honor her and all she fought for.

HERE IS THE CSPAN FOOTAGE FROM TODAY. WE NEED ALL OUR BOEY LEGACY WARRIORS NOW MORE THAN EVER IN GETTING THIS BILL PASSED!! HERE ARE THE SPECIFICS ON WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY AND DO WHATEVER IT TAKES!! IF BOEY COULD DO ALL SHE DID WHILE BATTLING THIS EVIL MONSTER…WHAT MORE ARE WE ALL CAPABLE OF? TOGETHER OUR VOICES FOR OUR CHILDREN WILL BE HEARD!! BOEY NEVER BACKED DOWN AND NEITHER WILL WE!! INSTEAD OF THE MEDIA GOING ON AND ON ABOUT THE GRAMMY’S AND OSCAR’S..THEY SHOULD BE BRINGING AWARENESS TO THE #1 DISEASE KILLER OF OUR CHILDREN!! WHILE THESE CELEBRITIES ARE BUSY SHOWING OFF THEIR DESIGNER DRESSES AND EARRINGS…OUR CHILDREN ARE DYING BECAUSE OF LACK OF FUNDING FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER RESEARCH!! THIS IS SICKENING AND FRIGHTENING AND VERY DISTURBING!! PLEASE DO WHATEVER YOU CAN IN YOUR POWER TO BE THE VOICE TO THESE CHILDREN WHO DO NOT HAVE THE STRENGTH TO FIGHT!! THANKYOU AND GOD BLESS.

A senator can put a hold on any bill for any reason. It takes 60 votes to “overturn” the hold so the bill can be voted on. Usually, senators can negotiate these things until a hold is removed. So, with 51 cosponsors, they need 9 more to insure the bill will go to the floor for a vote.

People in Oklahoma either call or write (send it to Coburn’s D.C. office) Senator Coburn and tell him to take his hold off S.911 and to not hold hostage a bill that would potentially save children’s lives by funding Pediatric Cancer Research. call his office, tell his staffer on the phone (this is important) that they want Senator Coburn to respond to them with his explanation why he has a hold on the bill. The staffer will take their name and address and get a letter response to them from Coburn. Be sure that they use the bill number - S.911 - and the bill title - Conquer Childhood Cancer Act 2007 - in their communications with his office. They can go to Senator Coburn’s website and send the message on his webform, too. It’s like an email.

His state senate office and D.C. office addresses/phone numbers are at his website:

FYI, Sen. Coburn is a medical doctor…

Also, look at the cosponsor list for S.911 and have people who live in states where one of their senators is not cosponsoring call their senators! They can get contact info for their senators on www.senate.gov

ON BEHALF OF OUR FAMILY WE’D LIKE TO SINCERELY THANK SENATOR JACK REED AND SENATOR RON WYDEN FOR THEIR FIERCE DEDICATION AND DETERMINATION TOWARDS FINDING A CURE FOR PEDIATRIC CANCER. OUR FAMILY IS TRULY BLESSED TO HAVE YOUR SUPPORT AND WE ARE ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING IN HONOR OF BOEY AND ALL HER WARRIOR FRIENDS BATTLING THIS HIDEOUS DISEASE.

GOD BLESS YOU.

NOT ANOTHER AWARDS SHOW

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Well the response to my last blog was surprising.  Is it me or were the comments more real as I was. I think we all need to be real. Let God sort it all out. Polite but real. Thank you everyone for commenting and affirming that my anger, frustration, disappointment are ok. It actually helps to read that over and over again; affirming what God has impressed as a truth. Pretty cool.

Ok so I am going to rant about something that has really bugged me!!! The academy award are tonight. I love movies and appreciate the awards…but is it just me or are there just so many award shows on tv?  How many awards do these entertainers need? Oscars, Golden Globes, Emmys, Grammies, Sag awards, Independent Spirit Awards, Guild awards, People’s Choice Award, Critics Awards, Tony, MTV music Award, Kids choice award, Blockbuster entertainment awards. Why so many. It would seem they have a complex or something and need to be affirmed-  ALL THE TIME!!
Actors and singers capture the emotions and sing or act them out for us to identify with. If we identify with them they have done  a good job; but they are not engulfed in them.  At least that is not what they are awarded for. What about all the parents at the 10th floor at Doernbechers childrens hospital or all the other hospitals in the world?  Or the mothers who are pouring love in to their children, building their confidence and happiness in this world?  Or the friends, like mine, that gave up their Christmas Eve fun to drive to Portland to be there for us and pray for our little girl? These are the people that really deserve affirmation but don’t demand it; they are too busy doing what is in their hearts.
There will be a day when we all stand before God and he will open the books that reveal what our reward will be. No I am not talking about the trip to heaven; that has already been paid for by Jesus. I am talking about the awards show in heaven. I am talking about all of the love that has not been noticed on earth; God notices. He keeps track and you will be rewarded. This world is just preparation for the next.  Are you learning to love?
My daughter set the bar pretty high for me. She amazes me. I am excited to see the rewards she received.  I suppose I will receive a reward too because I loved her and was there for her. But it doesn’t seem like I should.  It was the easiest thing in the world to do. It was easy because of the Love in my heart. But isn’t that what God is all about; not rules or commandments- The bible teaches that Jesus set us free from that. (Christians may teach otherwise but they are wrong) It is about fulfilling the rules because we love. I love Boey and she loves everyone.  When there is love it is easy to live the way we are supposed to. That is why I need to draw closer to GOD. The more I do that the more I love and the more I “accomplish” and the more awards I will get in heaven.

Eternal treasures

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Our hearts are focused on eternity and investing in our heavenly treasures. This world is temporary and the moment we die nothing in this life will matter more than what we did here on earth than living for him and investing in eternity.  Boey was so wise beyond her years. The love for her King radiated from her beautiful spirit and  gorgeous eyes even through the worst of her suffering. There truly is nothing in this world more powerful than a child who knows the voice of her heavenly father. Boey knew his voice and gave him the glory at the young age of only 8 years old. Truly divine.

December when she was lying on her little chair with a broken hip and recovering from brain surgery she never once complained or asked why did I just have a tumor removed from my head guys? She NEVER ONCE asked us anything about what happened, she never expressed fear or sadness….all she would say with her big beautiful Boey smile was “I love God”. She had a peace that surpasses all understanding, she was divinely connected to her King.  She is a beautiful vessel of God’s love.

Rob and I are very excited to write a book in honor of who Boey is, her unwavering faith and love for Jesus,  the way her love for others changed lives , her neverending dedication, strength and determination to find a cure for pediatric cancer, her amazing brothers and their walk with the Lord, and much much more. There is so much we can’t wait to share with the world.

I found this article on CBN and felt like I should share it because it reflects what I’ve been feeling. Boey always had a way of discerning someone’s heart and whether they were real or not. Nothing is more important than God, family and friends because in reality, they are the true celebrities in your life. They are the ones that love you for you no matter what and are always there for you. Boey had matured past making stars her idol because she knew the truth, they are just people like us. Other people tried to convince her to call certain stars and she would say No I don’t want to, I want to play with my friends. It was so funny to see the look on people’s faces. Boey didn’t care about stardom..she could discern who was real. She loved and lived for relating to people on a heart level.  The most important people in her life were Jesus, friends and family. We look forward to writing about her interactions with the stars in our book.

The pain of missing her is excruciating. Our hearts are shattered and we are trying to understand. I never expected this to happen..Boey is supposed to be here right now. Thankyou for your prayers love and support. You are blessing us with your love and beautiful uplifting comments and messages. We are eternally grateful to all of you.

Here is the article from CBN.

A few weeks ago I attended a secular rock concert. Most concerts that I attend are in the genre of Christian music. Usually, I can’t justify paying the ticket prices for anyone else. But I really like this particular band. Their lyrics are not offensive, and the tickets were free.

From the second row, the show was quite a feast for the senses. The band had an elaborate set-up and pumped out tunes energetically for nearly two hours. It was interesting to look around and see an arena full of people singing along and cheering. Between songs, the applause and screams for the lead singer and his entourage were so loud he could hardly talk over them.

How cool that must be, I found myself thinking.

I can’t imagine having that many people cheering so enthusiastically for you, not to mention being willing to pay money just to see you.

That’s when that still small voice spoke to me. He spoke with a whisper, but I heard Him loud and clear over the roar of the crowd.

They have already received their reward in full.

Ouch! That will surely make you reconsider the allure of fortune and fame.

As I mulled that thought over, I wondered if the band members were truly satisfied with their lives. Their music is enjoyable and they are providing entertainment to crowds all over the nation, but are they doing anything that will last? What happens years from now when they are gone and their albums have been relegated to the shelves of an old music collection?

Then I thought back to the numerous Christian concerts I have attended. On the surface, they looked nearly identical to the rock show that I was enjoying: loud music, multi-colored strobe lights, an energetic band, and people waving their arms and singing along.

But the two are very different. In one case, the musicians were performing to glorify themselves. In the other one, the artists were there to bring glory to God.

The same principle applies to us. We may not all be rock stars, but God has given each of us talents. He leaves it up to us to choose how to use them.

While our actions may look very admirable on the surface – commitment to our jobs, acts of service within our churches, kindness extended to less fortunate members of our community – God looks at our hearts. Are we doing those things to please Him, or are we looking to garner some attention for ourselves?

As Christians we should remember that we are working for Someone and something bigger than us.

Scripture warns us that if we live for recognition on earth, that may be all the reward we receive.

“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven” (Matthew 6:1).

However, if we seek first to glorify God, He has promised that an eternal reward is waiting for us in heaven.

Which reward means more to you, the approval of man or the approval of your Heavenly Father?
